Today Beautycounter turns 8! If you’ve been following along, you know that I have been using Beautycounter products consistently since 2017, and I am a proud supporter of not only the products, but the overall mission behind the company and what the company stands for. To celebrate, I am sharing ten things that make Beautycounter different!

1. It’s a B-Corp
Beautycounter is a B Corporation, which means that it meets the the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability, to balance profit and purpose. This means that it considers people and the planet instead of solely profit!
2. It bans a lot of harmful ingredients
The US has not passed major federal laws governing the cosmetics industry since 1938 (over 80 years)! Beautycounter bans 1800+ ingredients while also keeping its products really high performing. For reference, the US bans 30, Canada 600, and EU roughly 1400.
3. It advocates for change
This mission of Beautycounter is to get safer products into the hands of everyone and create a future where all beauty is clean beauty. Beautycounter is in Congress advocating for cosmetic reform and ultimately fighting for a healthier future for all. Since 2013, nine clean beauty laws have passed with its support which include:
Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act
Safer Sunscreen Bill
Cleaning Product Right to Know Act
Safer Salon Bill
Microbead-Free Waters Act
Pollution Prevention for Our Future Act
Safer Fragrance Bill
Sustainable Chemistry Research and Development Act
Toxic-Free Kids Act
…And we’re just getting started!
4. It is transparent about its mica sourcing
Beautycounter is the first beauty brand to have conducted in-person audits for all its mica suppliers to require legal mining (a.k.a. no child labor or forced labor, which is unfortunately widely common in the mica industry) and transparency about mica sourcing and its supply chains.
5. it screens each ingredient
Each ingredient used in BC products is screened and assessed against 23 Health & Environmental endpoints. Beautycounter relies on 17 unique databases, data and research studies, and collaborates with leading academic institutions to be sure that it never assumes that an ingredient is safe. BC invests in this research since it knows that certain ingredients have proven potential dangers (i.e. endocrine disruption, reproductive harm, or links to increased risks of cancer).
6. It tests for heavy metals
Beauty marketing claims may lead consumers to believe that “natural” means “safe,” but unfortunately that isn’t the case, and heavy metals are a major example which may be present in color cosmetics. Beautycounter uses a blend of colorants that help minimize the unwanted amounts of heavy metals and has only approved 18 colorants for use in its products. For reference, the EU allows 153 and US allows 65.
7. It is fully transparent with its ingredients
Beautycounter fully discloses all of its ingredients used on its website – including fragrance which is extremely uncommon within the beauty industry.
8. It even makes sure that the packaging is safe
Beautycounter examines all components (down to the simple seal) in its packaging to assure toxins aren’t absorbed into the clean formulas. From a sustainability standpoint, BC has removed spatulas, overcaps, lid inserts, extra product literature and has started to incorporate refillables. An example of a refillable is the new clean deo that has reduced water use, fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions by 47%!
9. It gives back
Beautycounter gives back to trusted non-profits that align with its mission and issues that are of importance such as protecting public health, supporting breast cancer research, and advocating for women’s empowerment.
10. It is has a few certifications
Beautycounter is both Leaping Bunny and EWG certified.
There you have it – 10 reasons why Beautycounter is different! I feel SO grateful to be a part of this movement and for all of you who have chosen to support me & vote for change with your hard earned dollar! It means so much helping people switch over to safer and sharing much needed clean beauty education makes me feel SO fulfilled!
