Sharing 5 easy, sustainable (and clean) household & personal care products swaps! Learn about what makes these options sustainable and safe!

In 2017, I recognized that I wanted to make the switch to safer, cleaner products. Along the way, I noticed the importance of not only this, but the eco-friendly aspect as well. I sat down and thought about a few things: what ingredients are in my products & how sustainable are they? The process of phasing out products took a while, but I am so happy that I made the swaps throughout the years. Today, to help celebrate Earth Day, I am sharing 5 Sustainable Household & Personal Care Products that I love and use daily.
1. Stasher bags
Stasher bags are a wonderful non-toxic plastic bag alternative. They are made out of platinum silicone which won’t deteriorate over time. This makes them a great investment to help eliminate single-use plastic bags from ending up in landfills and our oceans. Furthermore, they are free from BPA, BPS, latex, lead, and phthalates, which make them a fantastic non-toxic option as well! I use these all of the time to store food and other items!
2. Beautycounter’s clean deo
This clean deodorant is refillable! There is a cartridge that you pop out when finished and you can refill it with any of the other scents. Beautycounter was able to reduce its water use, fossil fuel use, and greenhouse gas emissions by 47% form this refillable component. Not only is it sustainable, but it’s clean too! The clean deo is free from aluminum and fragrance (a main offender) and is naturally scented with essential oils. There are 3 scents to choose from: Fresh Coconut, Clean Rose, & Soft Lavender. I have tried all 3, and my favorite is the Clean Rose!
3. Force of nature multi-purpose cleaner
You can use and reuse this Force of Nature cleaning system and same spray bottle to eliminate single-use cleaning and disinfecting products at home & in landfills! Since it’s made from only 3 ingredients (water, salt + vinegar), there are no additional toxins flowing into our water systems. It’s an EPA registered disinfectant & kills 99.9% of germs including Norovirus, Influenza A, Salmonella, MRSA, Staph & Listeria. It also is on the EPA’s list of disinfectants for use against SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19. I’ve been using it for almost 2 years now & I literally use it on EVERYTHING!
4. Beautycounter’s Countersun mineral sunscreen
Beautycounter’s mineral sunscreen protects against UVA, UVB, and Blue Light & is made with clean, safer ingredients. It contains sustainably-sourced, antioxidant rich California poppy & isn’t formulated with Oxybenzone or Octinoxate – 2 commonly used ingredients known to contribute to the collapse of coral reefs. This sunscreen is both safe for you & our oceans!
5. Molly’s Suds dish soap bar
Molly’s Suds recently came out with a zero-waste dish soap bar! The bar is equivalent to 2 bottles of dish soap and can last up to 3 months. I have loved using the eco-friendly accessories to go with it as well. For years now, Molly’s Suds laundry powder, oxygen boost, and stain spray have been my favorite household staples. The company’s motto is to create products that are safe for both people & the planet and they’ve done a wonderful job! You can use code SUNSETSNSTYLE to get 15% off of your order on Molly’s Suds website.
I hope this list of sustainable swaps was helpful if you’re looking to become more eco-friendly this year! Have you made a sustainable swap lately? I’d love to hear below!
